Semiotics

Semiotics is the study of symbols and signs and how we use and interpret them. For example a stop sign. A stop sign is bright red drawing your attention to it and also indicating danger. The reason we associate the colour red with danger is because that is what society has taught us. They are also octagonal which no other road sign is therefore also drawing your attention to it. They then have large bold letters saying STOP.
